Két héttel ezelőtt a Közös Konyha workshopon folytattuk a textúrák témájának akvarelles feldolgozását.

titkos összetevőkkel -- pass the secret ingredient please

Az eddigi munkákból sűrű, ötletgazdag, szellemes repertoár gyűlt össze. Ezeket a munkákat szeretném továbbra is használni, kibontani, gazdagítani a folyamat hátralévő részében.

Vasárnap tehát ehhez a munkához rendezzük be a kis laborunkat az A38-on.

és az elkészült mű --- and the edible counterpart

Two weeks ago we continued our work with textures in the watercolor medium at the Common Kitchen workshop. The completed works served as inspirational pieces to some delicious dishes and recipe designs. A few of them were actually prepared, and the impromptu brunch was accompanied by some discussion and a mini exhibition at the A38 ship in the special atmosphere of the sleepy-rainy morning we had last Saturday.

A dense, versatile and amusing repertoire has accumulated from the works we made so far. I would like to continue using these works, while also elaborating and enriching the content in the next phase of the process.

A few things we have already settled on: we will have a joint cooking event at a surprise location on the seventh or eighth workshop. The meal will be a joint design, this time more complex, based on the enriched inspirations. We have dealt with tastes, colors, textures, while also touching on forms and serving.

I expect the jointly designed menu to kind of unfold effortlessly after this, and we will have space for completing some more parallel projects as well. Naturally, Kata and myself are thinking in terms of some kind of artwork – this is the idea we have in mind when designing the next Common Kitchen workshops. From now on, we will progress towards coherence, and aim to find a common order in which the rich content we continue to explore can be presented in a material form. If we succeed, we will set up another exhibition, which will be planned and prepared in a joint effort this time.

This is the work to which we are adapting our Consensus Lab this Sunday.

A színeket ennél a technikánál a hordozó alapon keverjük.

Ami a témákat illeti.

Anna's salmon ice cream cone pun: so pretty, even geometrical, but we would not eat it. Not even with that tempting indigo and Turkish Delight sushi....

We created spicy smelling pictures at the first „Common Kitchen” workshop. We used dry pigments, powdered spices and other dry fine grained materials. It was a pleasure to see how many ways everyone used these materials. Some took advantage of their textures and material qualities to create collages. Some cast and heaped the powder on paper like in a sand mandala, and some mixed and spread the colorful powders and the glue in a painterly way.

We have some gorgeous pictures of the dancing hands, thank you Kata and all of you!

This smudging process is most like pastel painting. While pastels can be used in a graphic manner, this is the dry procedure that is closest to painting. Colors are mixed after being applied to the base in this technique. Next time I would like to give some room to this technique and other painting methods. I thought we might try pastels and watercolors in practice.

This time we created with the synesthetic principle – that is, we used colors to evoke gastronomical experiences: freshness, lightness, character, warmth, the richness of spices, textures. The concept of synesthesia is used in two different ways. What we are dealing with here is the metaphorical use: we compare a taste experience to a color experience. This requires some level of consciousness, while in the neurological form of synesthesia the two modalities connect automatically.

As regards the themes, we already have a rich collection of concepts in some kind of order, linked to colors. Now we can go on to shape this order together. Meanwhile, more plans are boiling of course, and I would also like you to join in and let me know which line you would like to elaborate more.

These are my picks from the themes we touched on: blue as the color of freshness, of spicy and of the beautiful inedible; artificial beauty, attractive food with plastic taste; blue and gray as the colors of burnt and grilled; the beautiful and the esthetically agreeable ugly, like a perfect composition on the theme of the repulsive. Well, I went for the controversies, obviously!

I have though about two things you might like to bring next time. No pressure, just in case you have an idea! You could share metaphoric expressions in your (/our) mother tongue that express a taste with a color (like red hot). Inversely, interesting foods used as color names are also welcome (e.g. aubergine, salmon, burgundy).
On the ther hand, I am very curious to know which food from your cooking repertoire you would first present to a stranger and why. Whatever tells most about you or is important for some reason.  Whether it is a stereotypical national food, a family specialty or your own creation, I am intrigued to hear!

Watch the homepage, too, I will be uploading content there sooner or later!                 ---Rita
